I would suggest getting him to do things with you and his other friends to keep him from thinking about it and tailspinning into a downward spiral. The best thing to do would be sports, because it releases endorphines in your body. Bike riding, swimming, wall climbing, that sort of thing. If you guys aren't into that, then maybe playing video games and things of that nature that require a lot of attention. (Sorry, not sure your age but most guys do like video games).If none of this works, and your fears are realized, then I would just stand by him as much as I could. Look out for him and try to prevent some of the more horrible things, such as drinking and driving.
