Should I tip off my friend to an audition where we'd both be up for the same parts?

Default Should I tip off my friend to an audition where we'd both be up for the same parts?

A good friend of mine and I always look out for each other but we're both actors in the same city. Since we'd both be considered for similar roles due to our looks and voices, is it selfish or wise (or both or otherwise) to keep him in the dark when I hear about an audition I'd have a good chance of succeeding in? I mean, wouldn't I be sabotaging my own career if I help him out in this way?

I don't think it's keeping him in the dark at all. He's perfectly capable of finding auditions on his own, isn't he? It's going to have to be either that, or you not having a problem with the competition. I honestly wouldn't say anything. Business is business.

If you're sure about that your friend is a threat to your career, then keep quiet. if you didn't get the part, inform your friend right away. who knows, you might change your friend's turning point in life for the better, hopefully yours too.

Don't do it. I know it sounds mean but why tell someone, no matter how close to you they are, of an audition if you have a good chance at getting the role? Don't lie if he asks you if you know about any auditions coming up, but don't tell him. Look out for yourself first. It sounds mean, I know, but you should look out for yourself before him, even if it means keeping in the dark. You aren't doing anything wrong by not telling him something if he didn't ask you about it.

What a bunch of selfish clods your answerers are. Of course you should tip off your friend. You'd expect him to do the same.
