Default Do I tip for a haircut done by a friend?

I am going to get my hair cut by a good friend. We have a good relationship where we give each other stuff / buy each other things without worrying about who owes who what, so money has never been a great concern. However, should I still be tipping for the service? On the one hand, I would love to compensate them for giving me a haircut. On the other, I'm afraid it might be offensive if they are doing it out of friendship.

NO. That would be an insult. Take your friend out for a coffee or something instead.Edit: A lot of the answers seem to be confusing tipping with paying. You should definitely offer to pay for the service. A tip is something on top which is given as an acknowledgement of a job well done. You friend is doing this for you, and is probably doing it out of friendship. Do them a favor in return, but offering a tip is tantamount to offering money for friendship.

Yes.If you're getting a free cut, then you either tip or present a small gift of some sort, even if (especially if) it's a friend. As a bartender, I occassionally"take care"of a good friend or relative. Typically, a tip or something else is given (usually a food item... I can't count the pizza's that have been given to me over the years). It's not required, but it's just good relations, I guess.

yes. I would tip the same as if you were paying for the cut. If she declines, then don't force her to take the tip. Just consider that if she wasn't doing your hair, she would be cutting someone else's hair and that someone else would be tipping her.if you want to compensate her for the haircut, take her for lunch or drinks.

Yes! This is business and she/he makes their living off of it. Offer to pay for the cut, if he/she says NO than insist she/he take"a tip"View this as a service performed to you. If they are a good friend (sounds like it) tell her you admire their work and insist on paying for it.

You should tip or take them out for lunch or something nice like that.I'm have been a waitress and a cocktail server. My friends are the ones that tip me the best. In return I hook them up. SO yes you should or like I said do something else nice for them.
