I like him, and he's been sending me mixed signals, so i'm not sure whether he likes me as a friend or someone more. He's really nice, varsity football, athletic, but kind of awkward sometimes. We're going hiking wednesday morning, GUYS: what would you like a girl to do if you're hiking/working out with her? how to be romantic... kiss on top of mountain? GIRLS: What's worked for you in the past?

be very girly

and act like u hurt ur ankle for a sec and see if he notices and tries to help, if he comes to you and checks out ur ankle, just look at him, smile and say thanks its better now

All you need to do is go up to him and cuddle - the rest will follow naturally if it's just the two of you - otherwise it'll only happen if he is VERY confident
