Why does people call it French kiss while most nations kiss like that?

I'm not sure, but when people say a curse word by accident (..?) the say, "Pardon my French"

People are weird..

it's only in America that people use this term...other places have other terms for it - in Ireland and England for example people say "snogging." I'm not sure why American's use that term - good question!
