Great question! Who knows? It is a very odd thing to do if you think about it - to touch somebody else with your mouth. It might be pressman actually.

One thing which comes to mind is that our mouth is the most sensitive tissue we have - and perhaps we use it to assess another person's mood by getting close to them and "licking" them.... Dogs do this too.

This is a very good question. I never have decided to look at the history of a kiss. I did read somewhere that a kiss could have POSSIBLY came from trying to "taste" your mate, and figure their genes. It kinda relates to smelling your mate... It's very hard to explain. This is an interesting question though.

All cultures have a version of a kiss, and in many primitive cultures the lips are used to transfer food and objects to one another.

It is interesting to note that many primates also use their lips to exchange food, and to kiss one another.

Kissing is an entirely natural and ingrained activity. Just like face reading and eye contact.
