I gave normal birth 5 weeks ago and I had some stitches Cox I had to be cut, its been 5 weeks and I haven't has sex with my husband as yet, I really want to but I'm afraid, he says he will wait for me until I'm ready but I feel as if I'll never get over the fear! Is it safe to have sex now or should I wait a while? Please help!!
Most doctors will recommend waiting six weeks after delivery to ensure that you have healed fully. However, not everyone follows this and many couples have sex sooner. If you don't feel pain or discomfort, your stitches are gone and you don't have an infection, you shod be fine. Just take it easy the first time.
Have you had a period yet? Are you on birth control? If not, I'd say no. The last thing a new mother needs is to get pregnant right away. The main risk with having sex after birth is infection. You've waited 5 weeks, they recommend waiting 6, so if you're all healed up and your doctor doesn't have a problem with it, I say go for it. BUT on the issue of getting pregnant, I would wait to have sex until after you got on some birth control. Good luck though and congrats on your new baby.
If you haven't had your last post par tum visit then you should wait. You are probably pretty well healed but the doctor should have given you birth control options and your stitches should be completely healed. There is nothing wrong with waiting another week, just be sure that you use birth control so you don't have another before you are ready.
