Love QuotesMany times love quotes express our feelings in ways that conversation can not carry. They can clarify our minds with simple words containing nothing but pure, love binding metaphors.
OK maybe not the nicest but it's stuck in my head since i heard it
Love is..... when you can go to the toilet in front of each other without being embarrassed
I don't have a special favorite, my mind changes quickly and I personally prefer fragments of song lyrics, especially if it's a song that means stag to you and your 'special' person
But here's a great site to check out some taken from many sources:
These are a few which have remained among my favorites over the years.
"After Love" by Alan Ross:
After love, to continue the caress
Is both to insure
Against sadness and to reassure
The one and the other that "Yes"
Has not become "No,"
And the urge to get up and dress,
Leave a kiss on the brow, and go,
Is one that will subside
In the slowly returning tide
That brings us to the next caress
True elements of tenderness.
"To My Valentine" by Ogden Nash (please look it up to save me typing it!)
and then this extract from Guy DE Maupassant's story of Andre Mariolle, "Notre Coeur (Our Heart)":
"Mariolle's eyes always searched among the letters for the longed-for handwriting. When he had found it, an involuntary emotion would surge up in his heart, making it throb wildly; he always took this letter first, and would dwell on the address before tearing open the envelope. What would she say? Would the word 'love' be there? She had never yet used that word without adding 'well' or 'very much'; 'I love you well' or 'I love you very much.' How thoroughly he was used to this formula that lost all power by using additional words! Can there be much or little in loving?
To love 'very much' is to love poorly; one loves - that is all - it cannot be modified or completed without being nullified. It is a short word, but it contains all; it means the body, the soul, the life, the entire being. We feel it as we feel the warmth of the blood, we breathe it as we breathe the air, we carry it in ourselves as we carry our thoughts. Nothing more exists for us. It is not a word; it is an inexpressible state indicated by four letters ....."
I don't know if you were looking for poetry or one-liners. Anyway, they pleased an old romantic like me.
XLIII. "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways..."
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
When you love someone its like reaching out for the stars. You know you can't reach it but you keep trying because maybe someday that star might just fall for you.
Love; nature's way of tricking people into reproducing.
Just kidding.
"Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing." - Goethe
"Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it." - Erica Jong
"To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down." - Woody Allen
"We never forget those who make us blush." - Jean-Fran?ois De La Harpe
"The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller
Hair of silk, lips of wine, skin so smooth and a smile I wish were mine.
Caress your neck and hold you tightly.
Look deeply into eyes of midnight and dream of love
?if only she were mine.
