why is romeo and juilet considered to be the best romantic lvoe story?
i thought it was a good love story until we actually studied in class.. the story starts on sunday and they die on thursday.. i dont think love is that strong.
Over the years I've deeply love only a few, two were so called"at first sight". One of which we went out on a date after only seeing each other on two occasions for about five minutes.Love can be so strong that ones sence of logic and rationallity fades in comparrison, you might be in for a treat, when you meet one!The classic was so because of the inpossibility of being together and the predictable tradegy that hate force upon the two lovers.I studied it and thought it was romatic, but only understood it when I found someone to live and die for.
Actually, I think you answered your own question."R&J"is considered a great romantic love story PRECISELY because you (and others) don't think love is that strong in real life. But their love IS that strong--strong enough that they will do anything, including risk death, to be together--because they know their love is true, and deep, and pure, not like the hate in their families and their town. And that's why the story has lasted: their romance is great, classic, for-all-time love, not cheesy TV or movie love that we're all used to. (P.S., at what I'm guessing is your age, no, love isn't that strong--not really. But trust me, it can indeed be that strong when you've got some life experience...)
I don't think it's the best love story! I didn't know the days it started and ended, yeah that IS too quick! But I still never thought it was that great... I think it's just known for the tragedy, not the writing or plot... There are much better stories out there!
'Romeo and Juliet', at least Shakepeare's version of it, is a beautiful love story and it is a fine tragedy as well. But firstly, it isnt right to make sweeping statements that some work or the other'is the best''the greatest'etc--as far as love stories go, different literatures/cultures have many wonderful stories. For example, in the Middle East the story of'Laylah and Majnoon'is widely appreciated; in Northern India, you have stories such as'Heer-Ranjha'and'Sohni-Mahinwal'etc; so, it would be right to say that Shakespeare's'Romeo and Juliet'is one of the great love stories of literature around the world. The length and such stuff dont really matter when we talk about a'love'story or any other work which is'universal'and timeless. It is part of Shakespeare's artistry that he condenses the action of the Romeo-Juliet story, historically spread over a longer time, within the requirements of his stagecraft--and if youve studied the play in class, then you should be able to appreciate the beauty of the language; how love is exalted. Remember the first meeting between Romeo and Juliet at the Banquet? Remember the first lines Romeo utters when he sees Juliet--how she seems to'hang upon the cheek of night/like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear/beauty too rich for use/for earth too dear'? And the balcony scene? And so much more that is so lyrical and beautiful? This is true beauty, human love emotion at its best, comparable to anything ever written anywhere!Unfortunately,'love'has become a sordid business nowadays. And people seem to have lost the poetry in their souls that the sight of a beautiful woman inspires, or the sense of awe and wonder which love, divine or human, fills us with.
