Well, Romeo and Juliet has already been mentioned, so how about some of Shakespeare's other work. Hamlet comes to mind immediately. Probably more than half of his tragedies fit in this category, though.The Princess Bride (Do they have to stay dead?)X-Men (2nd movie or the comics it's based on. Again, do they have to stay dead?)
