Default Need of relationship advice?

I just met a guy, and its not like i JUST met him we've had mutual friends and kind of knew each other, but for the first time we were actually formally introduced and hung out last weekend, he goes to my school and i see a potential relationship happening there. I seem to have a problem with rushing into getting too attached or clingy sometimes...how should i approach getting to know him better and let him know i see a potential relationship?.. how do i take it slow?
